Nothing is hosted

No IPFS, no server, no image files. If this website disappeared tomorrow, every CC0PE would still render straight from the blockchain.

  1. The script is stored on Ethereum. About 36 KB of JavaScript, split across three storage contracts.
  2. Your mint writes a seed. A random hash is recorded when you mint, and it decides everything about your piece.
  3. The contract builds the art. Ask it for any token and it returns the full animated piece, a cover image and the traits.
  4. Then it gets locked. Once the art is final, the script and renderer are frozen for good. Nobody can change them, us included.

Questions

How do I get future CC0PE art?

By burning CC0PE HARDER pieces. Every future CC0PE release, from 1/1s to rare drops, is only available that way. The contract already supports it: you approve the new release’s contract, it burns the pieces you choose, and you receive the new work.

Is this made by XCOPY?

No. CC0PE is an independent homage. In 2022 XCOPY dedicated his solo work to the public domain under CC0, which lets anyone build on it. This collection draws original skulls in that spirit and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by him.

What does it cost to mint?

0.001 ETH per piece, plus network gas. With current Ethereum gas that usually comes to a few dollars all in. Minting several in one go makes the gas per piece even smaller.

How many will there be?

It's an open edition, so the supply is however many people mint while the drop is live. The generator can make far more unique pieces than will ever exist.

Why 0% royalties?

It's built on art that was given away freely, so it's given away freely too. Trade them anywhere without a creator fee.

Can I use my CC0PE?

Yes, and so can anyone else. The art and the code are CC0. Print it, remix it, make a derivative of the derivative.

Where is the art stored?

On Ethereum itself. The contract returns the animated HTML piece, the cover image and the traits directly, with no outside links. You can check any token with the viewer above.
